Have you ever noticed “that person” when they smile and it just brightens the room!! Bad days turn good when they smile – even when you just see them smile from across the way. In fact, we release endorphins every time we smile – making us feel better.
Now imagine if it were you that was making the room brighter when you smile, or turning someones day around because you gave them a hug and a smile. A smile contains power, we just need to use it more often.
One of the most simple ways to have have this kind of smile is to keep our teeth white so they sparkle when we smile. Or at least we can keep them looking healthy and young. So how do we do this? Three whitening options exist and all of them are good. It just depends on what you are looking for.
In-office whitening - This is the quickest option to brighten your smile. It is performed in the dental office and takes between 1-1.5 hours to achieve a noticeable difference. With a normal diet this procedure needs to be done about once a year to keep the desired appearance.
Custom Tray whitening – This is the most predictable option of the three. Custom trays are made for both the upper and lower arch. Whitening gel is placed in these trays and the trays are then worn for 45-60 minutes at a time. 15-20 sessions are usually required to get to the desired appearance. Predictability – If you want to be whiter, then just keep doing it. If you feel you have reached the desired whiteness, then stop. This option is very adjustable to anyone’s schedule and desires.
Whitening Strips – This option is the least expensive option. You can buy the whitening strips at almost any pharmacy. The strips are placed on the teeth and left there for about 30 minutes before removed. Sometimes they don’t cover the back teeth and if you show your back teeth, like Julia Roberts, when you smile then this may not be the best option for you.
All three options will give you a brighter and more youthful smile. Choose the one that is right for your circumstances and then enjoy the result of brightening everyone’s day by your smile :). If you have questions, or would like to speak to us at Aspen Springs Dental about whitening options – Give us a call at 720-441-4857. We look forward to hearing from you.
Do my wisdom teeth need to come out? What happens if I leave them in? When should I take them out? Who should I go to? Is it painful? All of these are great questions that most of us ask at some time in our lives. Let’s look at these questions one at a time.
Do wisdom teeth need to come out? – Everyone is different. There is no correct answer to this question. Some people have enough space in their mouths to keep them for the rest of their lives with no issues. Most people do not have adequate space. If adequate space is not present, then keeping the wisdom teeth can cause more problems if they are kept than if they are taken out. So most of the time we look at removing the wisdom teeth.
What happens if I leave them in? - If wisdom teeth are left in when not enough space is available a few things can happen:
An infection can occur leading to tooth pain. The infection can also lead to loss of bone supporting the teeth. If bone is lost around the tooth in front of the wisdom teeth, then we could potentially lose other molars that we want to keep.
Cysts can sometimes occur around impacted wisdom teeth leading to resorption of other molars, bone, and supportive structures of the teeth.
Decay on other molars can form because wisdom teeth make it impossible to clean. Again – this could lead to loss of teeth that we really want to keep.
Crowding of the teeth has be shown in some studies due to the pressures wisdom teeth put on them.
When should I take them out? – In general it is easier to take the wisdom teeth out at an earlier age before they are completely formed. Our bodies also heal better when we are younger. So most people choose to have them out earlier in life. But again, they may never cause any concerns and may be kept for a lifetime.
Who Should I Go To? - Most of the time people will find an oral surgeon to remove the wisdom teeth. Surgeons have the capability of IV sedation, allowing patients to wake up and not remember the procedures. Some General Dentists will do this as well.
Is it painful? - Dental procedures have changed so much over the years. Most patients will experience some swelling and discomfort but it can be well controlled with the proper precautions.
If you or your children are looking for an opinion on wisdom teeth, please give us a call at 720-441-4857. We at Aspen Springs Dental know that many people are nervous about seeing the dentist. We have a caring team that understand your concerns. Give us a try and call for a consultation.
Do you have a denture and can’t stand how loose it is? Do you need a denture and have heard horror stories about keeping them in or not being able to chew and enjoy your food? You are not alone. Dentures are notorious for not being an adequate substitute for our real teeth. So what can be done about it? Answer: Dental Implants.
Dental implants are artificial root replacements and are the best procedure dentistry has to offer for anchoring dentures and prevent them from being loose and falling out. Dental-implant-supported dentures can even help you chew your food better.
How does it work? An artificial root is placed and the bone integrates to the implant. After healing occurs (which is usually about 3 months) attachments can be placed on the implants that then connect to the denture – holding the denture in place.
The connection between the denture and the implant can last for years. Over time the parts and pieces will wear out and will need to be replaced, but this can easily be done at one dental visit without anesthesia. It involves replacing some of the pieces in the denture.
When connected to implants, dentures can be connected in a removable manner, or the denture can be connected in manner that only the dentist can remove. Both are great options. Usually the removable denture is less expensive, but it isn’t as stable and solid as the attached denture. The choice is yours as to which option is best for your.
How much does it cost? It isn’t possible to predict exactly what the cost is before a complete exam and xrays. Every case is different. Every person desires different characteristics that are important to them. One thing for sure, we will help you find the right option for you that meets your financial, functional, and cosmetic desires. We will take the time to discuss each option thoroughly so you feel at peace with your decision.
At Aspen Springs Dental we want you to enjoy life with a smile, knowing your denture is stable and you can enjoy almost any food you desire. We would love to see you and discuss implant-supported dentures with you. Please call or email us to set up a FREE IMPLANT CONSULTATION to see how dental implants can improve your life.
Smiling releases endorphins. Endorphins make us feel happy and reduce the amount of stress we feel. And if you are anything like myself – I want to be happy and feel less stress. But what holds us back from smiling and feeling better?
For many of us we may be embarrassed of something in our smile. Maybe our teeth are more yellow than we want. Or maybe our teeth are chipped, worn down, or crowded. The great thing is that we live in the 21st century and all of these can be corrected. Cosmetic dental veneers are one conservative option to to bring back your smile.
Dental veneers are a conservative option to restore our smiles. They consist of thin esthetic porcelain that is bonded to the front portion of our teeth to be shown off when we smile. Chipped teeth can be corrected with dental veneers. Discolored teeth can be whitened using veneers. Some minor crowding can be corrected with veneers, sometimes avoiding the need to have orthodontics. See below for some before and after photos.
The cosmetic quality of dental veneers has greatly improved over the years. We all know someome that have crowns that show a dark line near the gums. With the high- quality porcelain we have now days we can avoid those dark lines in almost every circumstance.
If you are looking to change your smile and are ready to stop hiding your smile – then give us a call. For those reading this website Dr. Blatter and Dr. Ricks will do a free cosmetic consult to discuss your desires. Come in and meet the doctors and team. Get to know us at no charge to you. We look forward to meeting you. Be sure to mention that you were reading our website. See you soon.
It is a sad day when any of us loses a tooth. Maybe it got knocked out with a baseball. Maybe it was a car accident, or it broke on the bottom the swimming pool. Sometimes it is a dental infection that doesn’t allow the tooth to be restored. However it happened, we live in the best period of history to replace these teeth due to dental implants.
What is a dental implant? A dental implant is an artificial root that is placed in the bone, and after it heals a crown can be attached to it. The healing process usually takes about 3 months, but can take up to 5 or 6 months. Fabrication of the crown usually only takes 3-4 weeks.
What are the advantages of dental implants? Implants are the closest thing we have to a natural tooth. Some advantages of a dental implant are:
Hygiene- A dental implant is cared for much like a natural tooth. Flossing and brushing are the same as a natural tooth.
Function- Not a meal will be missed when using dental implants. In most situations they can be used just like a natural tooth. We must still be careful not to break the crowns on the dental implants – just like we would with a natural tooth.
Conservative- The two surrounding teeth are not affected by a dental implant. With a dental bridge for example, the two surrounding teeth must be shaped appropriately to place crowns and a fake tooth between them.
Longevity – A dental implant can last a lifetime with proper care. 98% of dental implants last 10+ years. Even simple procedures like fillings aren’t that predictable.
How much do implants cost? Implants are a little more expensive than a dental bridge. But when we consider that most bridges will need to be replaced 2-3 times in a lifetime, the implant becomes the less expensive and more predictable option.
At Aspen Springs Dental we want everyone to enjoy a beautiful smile for a lifetime. If you would like to discuss how dental implants can help you smile more, please call or email us to set up a FREE IMPLANT CONSULTATION. Be sure to mention this website page.
Have you ever had a crown done and the temporary fell off? You took off work again to go get it re-cemented. Then three days later it came off again!! So you went in again with the same result. Very frustrating for everyone involved: you, your employer, and even the dentist. So what can be done? Same-day crowns to the rescue.
We at Aspen Springs Dental have invested in E4D CAD CAM technology to fabricate your crown in one visit. No more temporaries!! :)
What are the advantages of same-day crowns?
One visit - Most crowns can be completed in one visit of about 2-2.5 hours. This means you only request one morning or afternoon from your employer = Happy Boss!! Happy boss = promotion = higher income = happy life. Same day dentistry helps us be happy in so many ways :).
Stronger crowns – The new Emax material is 2.5x stronger than other all-porcelain crowns. Stronger crowns mean less fracturing in the future and longer-lasting dental work.
All-white crowns – These Emax crowns are all white and have no metal in them. Not only are Emax crowns strong, but beautiful as well. We customize the shade to match your existing teeth as much as possible. All while you are in the office.
Customization – Using CAD CAM technology allows us to clone your tooth and have the final result feel almost identical to the tooth you have now. And any changes to the crown can be done as you wait.
Dental technology has progressed a long way, especially in the last decade. We at Aspen Springs Dental want you to have the highest-quality dentistry available to help preserve your smile for a lifetime. If you are interested in seeing our same-day technology and how it can help your appointments be more convenient to your schedule, then please give us a call. We look forward to seeing you.
Sometimes we get to a point in our life that we are just so tired of the troubles our teeth have caused us: Toothaches, root canals, crowns, gum disease, loose teeth, broken teeth, cavities, the list just seems to go on and on. Have you been there? Are you there right now? It is a place you never wanted to be but you may be contemplating dentures as your solution.
If we get to this spot it is nice to know that you have wonderful options. The doctors at Apen Springs Dental are very experienced at helping choose the best option for you. The main options are as follows.
Partial dentures are good options if you want to save some of your teeth.
Full dentures are a good option if you feel you just want to start over.
Implant supported dentures are a wonderful option when your dentures get loose or if you just don’t want to ever put your teeth in a glass by the side of the bed. Please see our implanted-supported dentures page for more details. These dentures can stay attched to your implants and only the dentist can remove them. Or another option is to have them attach to the implants in a manner that you can remove them when desired.
Many people have the misbelief that once you get dentures then all of their dental problems are over. This unfortunately is not true for most people. Denture teeth are only plastic teeth and chewing food will cause them to wear out. Also the body slowly resorbs the bone that once supported the teeth. This causes the dentures to not fit as the bone shrinks – just like pants don’t fit after a good diet ;).
Dentures are very functional and look very nice. Your smile and confidence can return. If you would like to speak to us about the possibility of dentures, please give us a call. Mention that you read our website and ask for our complimentary denture consultation. We look forward to meeting you.
Dentistry has changed tremendously over the last 100 years. One area dentistry has changed the most is the area of technology, especially in the science behind the materials we use to restore our teeth after cavities.
Our best filling material 50 years ago was the amalgam material (the silver filling material). It has worked very well for decades, but because of the mercury content and silver color, we have gradually moved away from this material to the new white filling material (composite).
The new composite material lasts just as long as the old amalgam material and is cosmetic. It is nice to not see silver in our smiles. The composite material has many shades that can match almost any color, translucency, or opacity of our teeth.
Another benefit of the composite material is that it is bonded to our teeth, which helps hold the tooth together. Whereas, the amalgam filling material does not bond to the teeth and actually contracts and expands due to temperature swings – sometimes leading to cracked teeth.
Should I have my silver fillings removed? Only when the silver fillings begin to break down and get decay, or you have a strong desire to remove the fillings. Very little mercury is released from the silver fillings after they have been placed in your teeth, so leaving them in until something happens is usually the best and most conservative option. However, when the edges of the fillings begin to break down, then it is time to remove them before decay forms around the fillings.
There have been many advancements in dental technology in the past 50 years that can provide you with a bright smile to last a lifetime. Centennial cosmetic dentistry will take great care to provide proper instructional techniques in preventative oral care by stressing the importance of proper brushing and flossing techniques along with regularly scheduled dental checkups. But there may be times when you will want a “smile makeover”, and Aspen Springs Family Dental has the knowledge and the expertise for optimum services in cosmetic dentistry.
We can offer a wide range of professional dental healthcare for patients in need of cosmetic dentistry, including single tooth implants, dentures and partials restorations, crown replacement and repair, teeth whitening, white composite fillings, dental veneers, and inlays and overlays. You may even need teeth straightening services, and our Centennial Dentists are highly trained experts in the new methods of Invisalign “invisible braces”.
Cosmetic services cannot always be provided by your regular dentists. The processes and materials needed to ensure a professional and beautiful smile through cosmetic dentistry are not always available in your neighborhood dentist’s office. The Aspen Springs Family Dental can not only provide these smiling enhancing services, but can also perform the traditional forms of oral preventative and maintenance services such as cavity fillings and root canals.
We have expertise in the use of composite fillings materials, a white bonding agent that can now be used in cavity repair, replacing the older methods of silver fillings laced with mercury. The composite fillings process leaves a more natural appearance, allowing our Centennial cosmetic dentistry professionals to modify the color of the filling to match the precise color of your individual tooth. This means that your fillings go unnoticed to the naked eye.
For crown repairs and replacements, we can very often create and install a brand new crown while you wait! With our advancements in E4D CAD/CAM Technology, we can provide long lasting restorative services of inlays and overlays, bridges and crowns through a marvelous new process of computer design generation. The end results are more natural in appearance and designed for your individual oral region. The best part is that you don’t have to return for another visit!
Our cosmetic dentists in Centennial can provide you with a smile that will last a lifetime. Whether you are in need of a single tooth restoration or a full mouth reconstruction, our gentle touch services will provide lasting results that are comfortable and provide a natural appearance.
You might not be fully aware of what dental bonding means, but our Dentists in Dentists often use this process in a whole variety of reconstructive and restorative dental procedures. Dental bonding is nothing more than a special chemical substance that allows for us to adhere together the different features of your newly enhanced smile.
For example, your cavities fillings will require a special dental bonding agent. Cavities used to be filled with silver or gold, but now, through our many advancements in dental technologies, we can provide a more natural appearing oral filling made from a white composite bonding material. Once the process is complete, you won’t even be able to tell that you once had a cavity in that area. The bonding material can be altered to the specific color of your existing tooth.
Our Centennial Dentists use this in unique method in cavity fillings, crown repairs and replacements, in some cases of partials and dentures restorations, and even for smile makeovers of chipped teeth. This dental bonding substance can be used in any technique where two surfaces need to be joined together, one surface being the tooth itself.
The extent of the bonding substance used can vary greatly, depending on the area of the damage and the amount of reconstruction required. But it is a highly adaptable material that provides lasting benefits to create smiles that last a lifetime!
Aspen Springs Family Dental generally restricts the use of this bonding agent to adults over the age of eighteen years of age and reserves this substance for minor flaws of tooth decay. For the more significant restorative and cosmetic dental services, a more enhanced level of treatment may be required.
Our experienced and professional Centennial dentistry may employ dental bonding in coordination with veneers, inlays or onlays. For example, patients may sometimes have a small gap in between their front teeth or have teeth that are uneven, chipped or out-of-line. Through the use of attaching porcelain veneers over the top of your existing teeth, attaching them with this new form of dental bonding, we can design a brand new smile that looks natural and will remain intact for a lifetime!
These types of services cannot be supplied by just any local dentist. You will need a reputable and technical professional to ensure that this dental bonding material is applied properly and effectively. Our Centennial Dentists have the knowledge and the gentle touch that can provide the optimum level of cosmetic and restorative dentistry for you and your family!
It is a very common practice for patients to head to their dentist in Centennial once or twice per year for a standard form of dental cleaning. This is often performed with your routine dental checkups where the dentists or hygienists will comfortably remove the plaque and tartar buildup around your teeth and gums. We may take some minor x-rays to review for potential bone loss, cavities and tooth decay as well, checking the gum regions for possible infections simultaneously.
It is only natural for these calcium-based deposits to sometimes form around the teeth and gums, but his also provides the potential for harmful bacteria to fester and grow, leading to possible infections and irritation. If not treated properly and immediately by Centennial Dental Care, this could result in further damage to the oral cavity.
The bone of the mouth that holds the teeth may begin to recede, leaving your teeth further exposed to this bacteria. If this condition gets out of control, the onset of periodontal disease often develops. This can lead to potential tooth loss and other dental disorders. The patient may begin to experience pain and discomfort, more potential oral infections and decay, and even incur chronic headaches or neck soreness. Gum disease is even proven to be a leading factor to some forms of diabetes and heart disease.
Centennial dental can prevent these unwanted complications with a simple preventative oral care practice of dental cleaning on a regular basis. This will not only improve your overall health, but will also keep your existing smile bright and beautiful.
During this standard practice, Aspen Springs Family Dental will gently scrape your teeth and guns, probing the areas around each tooth at the gum line. We will be determining the natural form of the “pocket shaped” location for the embed of each individual tooth. We will be looking for early signs of periodontal disease which might include a pocket deeper than 3 mm or perhaps bleeding of the gums. If the hygienist has any concerns, he or she will ask your Centennial Dentist for a closer examination, upon which they might recommend further treatment.
The dental cleaning process provides a minimum of discomfort. We always recommend that if the patient begins to experience any pain at any time, you should let your hygienist know immediately. This might mean the presence of cavities or other oral decay, but our expert technicians are always well known for their gentle touch.
There are a great many reasons why Centennial dentistry may be taking x-rays of your teeth and gums. This is sometimes the only method of determining tooth decay and damage that is not yet seen by the naked eye. Even though dental x-rays may seem uncomfortable at first, it is always best is we catch this damage earlier rather than later.
X-ray technology helps us to also better determine the location and depth of the tooth in relation to the nerves and bone. We will be scanning your entire oral region for all types of potential dental health issues such as possible bone loss, impacted teeth, tumors, cysts, hairline fractures, and damaged roots of your teeth. Our equipment is always of the latest advanced technologies, allowing us to discover even the tiniest imperfections that might save your beautiful smile in the long term.
It is very common for any of the dentists in Centennial to ask for x-rays during your regular checkups and before your cosmetic procedures begin. You will be asked to wear a lead-lined vest which will keep you safe from the radiation of the x-ray machine itself, and then the hygienist will place a small piece of cardboard or plastic inside the patient’s mouth, asking you to “bit down” in order to keep it in place.
This is the only part that is uncomfortable, but it only lasts a few seconds while the hygienist quickly steps behind the x-ray machine to snap the image. The final x-rays are developed instantly and mounted for the dentist so that you can both view the images and discuss your course of treatment.
Why do your Centennial dentists ask you to wear a lead vest? It is really only an additional safety precaution. The Federal Government only allows the minimal levels of radiation to be employed in these types of technologies and the use of the radiation screen within the room is also part of the process. The leaded vest with additional protection at the collar is meant to guard the sensitive thyroid area, just as an extra safety measure
Fortunately, recent advancements in Digital Radiography have resulted in far less use of traditional dental x-rays. These are small devices that are about the size of a ballpoint pen that can take images while you are sitting in your Aspen Springs Family Dental chair, flashing images instantly to a screen directly in front of you.
Minor tooth decay when caught early might require the need for a simple inlay or onlay dental procedure of restorative dentistry from Aspen Springs Family Dental. This service can also be useful in patients who are wanting to replace older cavity fillings of silver or gold, as well. These inlays and onlays work with the cusp of the tooth, the top surface with the “little pointy parts”.
These inlays can be specifically designed by our professional Aspen Springs Dentists to fit perfectly with the concave area of the top portion of each of your individual teeth. They can be made of several types of materials, such as porcelain, resins, or gold, and we can adjust the color to match your existing teeth for a more natural appearance.
Onlays are used for areas in between the teeth. They are also made from the same types of materials and appear virtually invisible to the naked eye. Regardless of the type of service, either inlays or onlays, our experienced and highly trained staff at Aspen Springs Family Dental can provide restoration services that will not be noticed by your family and friends. Your smile makeover will be complete without anyone being the wiser.
These types of cosmetic dentistry alternatives provide some benefits that traditional fillings do not. Inlays and onlays do not react sensitively to cold and hot beverages or foods like some types of fillings might. They also provide strengthening abilities for the normal structure of your other teeth.
Inlays and onlays can last for up to thirty years without incident and are very durable. The main reason that these might require replacement from your Aspen Springs Dentists in the future could be due to unconscious grinding of the teeth in your sleep, for example.
Depending on the specific tooth involved and the area of the mouth for the restoration, we will help you to determine which of the possible materials will be the best choice for the design of your inlay or overlay. Gold is often used for molars. These are the teeth that provide the heavy duty crushing and chewing of our foods. Therefore, these kinds of teeth need the sturdiest and most durable material benefits of gold.
For teeth in the front portion that provide your winning smile, our Aspen Springs Dentists might recommend the porcelain or resin alternatives. These can easily be molded and altered to match the exact color of your existing teeth, making this cosmetic process virtually invisible to the naked eye.
Dentists in Centennial are well aware of the potential for embarrassment in the use of traditional metal braces for cosmetic teeth straightening and are therefore ready to provide the expertise of the new innovative procedures of Invisalign. This invisible form of teeth straightening will reshape your crooked smile to one that you can be proud of.
Invisalign works in the very same manner as the traditional form of metal braces but are undetectable to your friends, family and co-workers. How do they work? In your first consultation with your Centennial Dentists, we will first assess your smile to determine if this procedure will provide lasting benefits.
Once Aspen Springs Family Dental has determined that this process will be appropriate, we will then begin to take impressions and images of your existing teeth. This information will be forwarded to our company’s founding organization, Align Technologies, where the manufacturing of your individual Invisalign treatment will begin.
A very complex and sophisticated computer design program will create up to thirty sets of Invisalign straightening devices that you will implement and change over the course of your teeth realigning procedures. Each device will help to shift your teeth ever so slightly, perhaps as little as .25 mm to .33 mm with each new device. You will simply upgrade to a new set of Invisalign every two weeks or so.
Your Centennial dentist will keep the remaining quantities of aligners to prevent loss or damage. We will provide you with the next two to three sets upon each visit to Aspen Springs Family Dental with proper instructions and dates as to when to change to the next device. This allows us to monitor the results more accurately, perhaps making minor adjustments throughout the course of treatment while keeping your dental visits to a minimum. The entire process may last for up to twelve months, but the result is a winning smile that you have always dreamed of having.
Not every local dentist is certified in this advanced technology, so it is important to choose reputable Dentist in Centennial with expertise and experience in this new and innovative process. Even if the Invisalign procedure is not considered to be the best form of treatment for your realignment and teeth straightening needs, we will work with you to provide other alternatives that will get you the results that you want, creating a beautiful smile that will last a lifetime.
Many times, dentists in Centennial will prefer the method of Partial Dentures for restorative and cosmetic dentistry techniques in cases where patients have acquired tooth loss of only a few individual teeth. This is a valuable alternative to acquiring a full set of dentures. Permanent teeth always provide lasting benefits to cosmetic replacements. But why do we even need to replace lost teeth in the first place if they are not visible when we smile?
The reasons are many. If extra gaps in between teeth exist in the oral region, then the muscles, jawbone and other teeth will begin to shift and move to make up for this extra space. This can lead to further tooth loss, crooked teeth and smiles, and misalignment issues that can also result in other physical disorders.
It can lead to a loss of appetite, affecting the way that we chew and digest food. As the muscles contract and our bite pattern begins to change, this can also lead to chronic headaches or neck pain as well. In some cases, acid reflux can even develop, making it even more important to have a full set of properly fitting teeth. Talk to your Centennial dentists about any questions that you might have regarding partial dentures as a viable solution for missing teeth.
You might be wondering how the partial dentures will fit and work. Unlike full dentures which use creams and gels to adhere inside the mouth, partial dentures will actually attach firmly and comfortably to your existing teeth. This provides a stronger grip than full dentures and is extremely more comfortable. After your partial dentures are fitted, you can eat any food that you like.
Centennial dental will first begin by making sure that your teeth and gums are in healthy condition and free from decay. Using selected materials, a mold of your internal oral region will be taken, but only after all potential swelling has subsided. This might occur if the patient has recently acquired a tooth extraction or a cleaning before the mold can be taken. In those cases, it is not uncommon for Aspen Springs Family Dental to provide a temporary set of partial dentures until the process can be completed.
The entire process many take from six to twelve weeks, depending on the amounts of missing teeth and their locations. The end result will be a naturally looking smile that is easy to manage with proper daily oral hygiene which our staff of experienced and knowledgeable Centennial dentist and Hygienists will be happy to provide expert instructional methods and advice.
Aspen Springs Family Dental always recommends periodic visits to your local dentist once or twice per year to ensure that you teeth and gums remain healthy. Periodontal Disease is one of the more severe infections that can result due to improper oral hygiene and lack of preventative dental treatments. You can prevent the occurrence of this medical condition through regular inspections and dental cleanings provided by your Aspen Springs Dentist.
If left untreated, Periodontal Disease can result in gingivitis which is a leading contributing factor for future tooth loss. This is a bacterial infection that can cause bleeding of the gums and other inflammatory symptoms. Additionally, medical studies have discovered a direct link between this condition and diabetes as well as heart disease.
Your teeth and gums are very important, but the muscles and jawbones are also major contributors to your overall physical health. Infections, pains and discomforts that result from Periodontal Disease can easily spread throughout the entire body and surrounding tissues in the oral region, leading to very severe and perhaps permanent consequences.
Bone loss and deterioration of the roots of the teeth are commonly associated with Periodontal Disease. We will also inspect the supporting bone, checking for bone loss, while inspecting the gums for possible receding. Both of these conditions are contributing factors to Periodontal Disease as well. Are you already nervous from just reading the phrase “root canal”? Did you shiver as you remembered your experience with your last root canal?? We know exactly how you feel. This definitely doesn’t need to happen.
Root canals have such a bad name!! Most of the time they get a bad rap because we never hear of the good root canals or the ones that didn’t hurt. Root canals usually hurt because of an infection that is in the tooth when it hurts. This infection renders the anesthetic less effective. But because of the amount of pain we are in we will do anything to get out of pain – including pushing through on a root canal procedure!!
But really most root canals are painless. When the infection is controlled by antibiotics prior to the procedure, full anesthesia can be achieved – leading to an absolutely painless procedure. Root canals are wonderful procedures that help us save our teeth and our smiles for much longer.
A root canal is a procedure that removes the inner portions of the tooth alleviating the infection and tooth ache. It saves our teeth for much longer than the alternative treatments of extraction or even leaving the tooth with the infection.
If you are in need of a root canal, or just want the tooth ache to go away, then give us a call. We have reserved two emergency appointments every working day to get the first two emergency calls in the same day. We may not be able to finish the procedures, but we will do all we can to alleviate your tooth ache. Don’t stay in pain any longer. Give us a call today.
Many of our patients at Aspen Springs Family Dental take very excellent care of their teeth and gums, brushing at least twice every day, flossing regularly and perhaps even rinsing with an effective mouth washing solution as well. They are well aware that regularly scheduled dental checkups with their friendly Centennial Dentist will only further ensure their overall dental hygiene.
Regrettably, not everyone is as attentive which leads to the buildup of excessive amounts of tartar and plaque. This can easily lead to decay and gum disease, resulting in tooth loss or other dental disorders including Periodontal Disease. This can negatively affect the surrounding soft tissue of the mouth, the gums, and even lead to future bone loss.
As this occurs, bacteria can begin to grow more rapidly. This infection can easily spread throughout the entire body while also causing the tooth itself to decay and die. This loss of a single tooth is not something that should be taken lightly.
Many patients are not immediately concerned when the lost tooth is located in the back region of the mouth, not affecting their beautiful smile. But over time and if left untreated, you will begin to see some misalignment in the frontal teeth as well, as the remaining teeth shift and adapt to fill the empty space in between your existing teeth. This can only lead to more constructive and cosmetic dentistry services in the future from your dentist in Centennial.
Make sure to schedule a visit with Aspen Springs Family Dental for a regular dental checkup. We will inspect your teeth and gums for any signs of Periodontal Disease. If this is indeed present, we might recommend scaling and root planning as a viable solution and as a preventative measure for possible future tooth loss.
This is a very safe and comfortable method where your Centennial dental care and Hygienists will simple remove the excess tartar and plague by gently scraping along the teeth and gum line. Most of our patients will receive a numbing agent or localized aesthetic to prevent any possible discomfort. We will then apply an antibiotic material within the pockets between the teeth and soft tissues to help speed the healing process and to fight infection.
After approximately one week, you will be asked for a return visit to Aspen Springs Family Dental so that we can inspect the infected area and remove the antibiotic materials from the treatment site. This simple process can completely eliminate the gum disease quick, easily and painlessly.
“VELscope is a revolutionary hand-held device that provides dentists and hygienists with an easy-to-use examination system for the early detection of abnormal tissue. It is based on the direct visualization of tissue fluorescence and the changes in fluorescence that occur when abnormalities are present.
VELscope is the only non-invasive adjunctive device clinically proven to help discover occult oral disease.”
The VELscope Handpiece emits a safe blue light into the oral cavity, which excites the tissue from the surface of the epithelium through to the basement membrane (where premalignant changes typically start) and into the stroma beneath, causing it to fluoresce. The clinician is then able to immediately view the different fluorescence responses to help differentiate between normal and abnormal tissue.
